Daenna Van Mulligen

Becoming a wine writer can be a difficult task. The starting and, for many, ending step involves endless pitch letters to established magazines and newspapers. Daenna took a different approach – rather than asking permission to be read, she started her own publication, making no apologies.

In 2004 she launched winediva.ca, a website taking a tongue-in-cheek approach to wine. Many would stop with a simple website, but Daenna transformed WineDiva into a site that would help wine lovers discover new wines based on their personal preferences. Taking a disciplined approach to her tasting allowed her to introduce “Wine Diva’s Tools” and features like “show me similar” and “just for you”- letting readers see wines with the same style and flavour profile to wines they’ve tried and like.

Six years and thousands of wine reviews later winediva.ca reaches hundreds of thousands of readers around the world a month. On any given day, if you go to google.ca and search “wine reviews” winediva.ca will likely be the top search result.
In 2008 Daenna launches her second website WineScores.ca to fill a gap. Visiting WineScores.ca will provide you with thousands of wine reviews with a numerical score out of 100 points and in-depth articles about her travels to wine regions all over the world.

In Canada, Daenna has become the go to person for on-line wine knowledge. Daenna Van Mulligen lives in Vancouver where she works as a wine writer and wine educator. She has been the master of ceremonies and primary educator for the past five years at EAT! Vancouver's wine stage and at EAT! Fraser Valley to entertain and educate you about all things wine.

Daenna is an accredited sommelier who thrives on educating the public with her deviously inspirational and humorous approach to wine hoping to share her knowledge and increase consumer consumption while decreasing wine snobbery.

Daenna is also a regular contributor to Vines Magazine (Canada’s largest wine magazine) and to the BC Liquor Stores Taste Magazine. You can hear her weekly on Terry David Mulligan’s The Tasting Room Radio or see her often on local television.
